March 7, 2021 (LOUISVILLE KY) –Hwang’s Martial Arts (HMA) will host its 2nd Worldwide Online Demonstration Competition to benefit the Jung Hwang Legacy Foundation in defiance of the global pandemic.

In November 2020, HMA did something no one else ever tried. It held a virtual demonstration team competition online. “It was a great success” states Kevin Gardner, Co-Director of the event. “This is something we pulled together in a little over a month. We had 8 teams compete from around the world in an online competition that had over 3,000 streaming views and gather over 50,000 social media impressions. The feedback was so positive we had to do it again.

Planning for the 2nd Worldwide Online Demonstration Competition began with hours of completion of the November Event. “We were both shocked and excited.” said Gardner. “Before the streaming broadcast was over for the November competition, we received a message from Grandmaster Hwang to announce that we would hold a 2nd bigger Online Competition in March 2021”. Since that announcement 20 Taekwondo demonstration teams from 4 countries have registered to compete in the updated and upgraded event.

Businesses impacted by global pandemic have had to adapt. Online and virtual events are becoming the norm. It is estimate that over 5,000 martial arts schools will close in the wake of the pandemic. Hwang’s Martial Arts in Louisville, Kentucky is determined to defy the odds and is helping other schools in process. “In normal times, we would have been finishing up our 34th Annual World Taekwondo Championships in October, but due to restrictions we planned an internal competition between our three school locations in Louisville over Zoom”. Master Stacy Koch, Co-Director states. “It seemed to organically grow from an internal competition to a worldwide event and now we are set to do it again on a much larger scale.”

Inspired by his Never Give Up; Yes, I Can philosophy, Grandmaster Jung Hwang challenged his team with this new event. “We learned a lot from our November competition” reports Don Ault, the Technology Director for HMA. “We have upgraded almost everything about this competition. More teams, more countries and an enhanced streaming experience. We will even have an exhibition performance from the Yong-In University Taekwondo Demonstration team from South Korea.” The 2nd Worldwide Online Demonstration Competition will be broadcast live over two weekends in March on the YouTube Live, Facebook Live and Instagram TV social media networks. Divisional competition will begin on March 12th and 13th with the winners moving forward to compete in the Championship round on March 20th where one team will be crowned World Champion and earn a prize of $2,000.

Teams competing in the 2nd Worldwide Demo Competition include: three teams from Korea Black Belt Center (South Korea), KBBC China at KIS International School (China), two teams from Champ Martial Arts (Anchorage, Alaska), Kwon’s Martial Arts (Poughkeepsie, New York), Major Taekwondo (Atlanta, Georgia), Han’s White Tiger Taekwondo (Liberty Township, Ohio), Tiger Lee Martial Arts (Delaware, OH), AK Family Taekwondo (Eagle River, Alaska), YH Park Taekwondo Academy (Levittown, New York), Master Lee’s USK Taekwondo (Angleton, Texas), Lee’s White Tiger Taekwondo
