Eye for an Eye: The Blind Swordsman Review

November 26, 2023 (NYC)- Eye for an Eye: The Blind Swordsman Review  A look at Eye for an Eye: The Blind Swordsman, a Chinese martial arts revenge film, available on November 27, 2023.  Here is a synopsis and review of this Well Go USA Entertainment release.

SYNOPSIS:

After stumbling into the aftermath of a brutal attack that resulted in an innocent man’s murder, a highly trained and exceptionally deadly swordsman temporarily sets aside life as a bounty hunter to investigate. As the truth behind the tragedy comes to light, the former killer-for-hire decides to hunt down his prey for an entirely different reason: rage.

REVIEW:

Eye for an Eye: The Blind Swordsman is the newest martial arts, action release from Well Go USA coming out of China.  The film is a well made period piece with a common, but well executed martial arts theme.  The title “Eye for an Eye” leaves no doubt that the movie is founded in a foundational premise of revenge.

Xie Miao stars in the leading role and the, seemingly heartless, blind bounty hunter who becomes personally involved in avenging the death of an innocent man whose path he crosses.  He previously starred in, and did an admirable job in, 2022’s Ip Man: The Awakening.

The remainder of the cast does a good job supporting Xie Mia in this one.

The Direction and cinematography in the movie are very laudably done.   The movie has a sharp visual element and the martial arts fighting, sword, and action choreography are executed in the manner of a much more highly budgeted film.  There are some very good fights throughout this one.  The climactic fight scene, as well as the snowy fight scene are both really top notch martial arts cinema.

The theme of the blind swordsman has been utilized in several compelling martial arts films coming out of Korea and China.  In this case, when well executed, it makes for a good viewing.

While this film was made for the Domestic Chinese market, its martial arts action themes and fighting lend itself to a worldwide audience.

The film is in Mandarin with English Subtitles.
